Renovations, by definition, sound like a long and tedious task. The thought of spending endless hours in packing up your entire kitchen, sitting through the kitchen renovations, and then unpacking and rearranging the kitchen can be horrifying. However, there are a few ways by which one could redo their kitchen at a minimal cost, both in terms of time and currency.
# 1. Let your paints flow!
Painting has its roots imbibed in therapy and you never know when you start enjoying the whole remodeling process. Paint the walls. Draw interesting caricatures or just doodle and call it modern art! Let yourself be consumed by your spark of creativity. Paint the extremities and insides of your cabinets instead of having them replaced. Use oil paints for a smooth finish. However, ensure that you do not make the following mistakes while doing this yourself:
The most important step to kitchen renovation is to take all the doors off, pull the drawers out and remove the hardware knobs and hinges.
It's worth using numbered labels to help you remember where everything goes because you have to put it back from where you took it.
Do not forget to sandpaper the cabinet so that the paint may stick to the wood better.
Give yourself enough time, and let the paint dry before putting the cabinets back.
Use a stain-blocking primer (found in any stationary store) so that the wood doesn’t bleed 3 months down the line.
Art speaks a lot about its creator. You could have a go at the old glasses and kettles in your kitchen. Paint them too to add a touch of niche to your kitchen renovations.
# 2. Illuminate dark corners by installing lights
Give this DIY idea a try.
Step 1: Take an old bucket and remove its handles. Paint the bucket with acrylic paint or cover it with a huge sheet of waterproof paper (available in many colors and very easy on the pocket).
Step 2: Fill the bucket with sand and position a thick stick (preferably bamboo) at its Centre.
Step 3: Twine Fairy Lights around this stick and place the bucket near a plug point.
You have officially redecorated a dark corner in your kitchen! This is a simple but easy option for kitchen renovation.
# 3. Reshuffle all the items in your kitchen
You would be amazed at how different your kitchen would look when you move a pan here and a pot there when you move the cutting board to the right and place the basket of fruits on your left.
# 4. Go green with kitchen renovation
Greenery is always symbiotic with serenity. Plant a few herbs in a bowl and place them near your kitchen sink or near a window in your kitchen. Pepper your kitchen shelves with money plants and creepers of your choice. If you are worried about dust accumulating on your money plants, use a bottle spray to clean the leaves once in two weeks.
# 5. Reduce, reuse and recycle for kitchen renovation
Any renovation that embodies the traits of reducing, reusing and recycling is a well done renovation. Here are two ways of doing this:
Cut up old plastic bottles to make an elegant vessel in which you could keep your climbers and creepers. You could also use old kettles and thermos flasks for this.
Use old teacups, the ones with chipped edges, to hold your cooker whistles and plastic clip sealers.
Remember that you are allowed to take your time to do this. It is nothing short of a herculean task. So give yourself some credit and enjoy kitchen renovation!
