Choosing the fabric for your Upholstery Made a lot Simpler

Having upholstered furniture makes the home interiors look cozy and warm. It adds a homely feeling to the place. But choosing an appropriate fabric for your upholstery is not a simple task. You cannot just pick what looks good to the eye. The fabric has to be durable as well as dust resistant along with a lot many other things. Patterns, solids, and prints - those are already too many varieties of designs to pick from to have to worry about other factors like thread count and style. But just because you are confused with the design, it does not mean that you completely ignore the rest of the important factors. To help you out of all this confusion, here is a buying guide to help you through the process.

There are always questions about how to select the fabric style and how to determine its durability and its suitability in a particular house. Once you know about things to consider, all these doubts would be cleared right away. I personally consulted several upholstery experts to finally be able to find a perfect buying guide.

All the suggestions given by experienced upholstery dealers have been duly included within the complete guide:

#1. The thread count: You may have heard several people talking about the thread count of the fabric while choosing the suitable one for their upholstery. Theoretically said, thread count, is the number of threads per square inch of the fabric. The higher the thread count, the softer the fabric feels to the skin. Fabrics with higher thread counts are less prone to shrinkage. Thread count is directly proportional to the durability of the fabric. Upholstery with lower thread count is lightly woven and thus will suffer wear and tear at a faster rate. A thread count above 180 is considered suitable. Also for upholstery that is to be exposed to more usage needs a fabric with higher thread count.

#2. Colour: You may think that the color of the upholstery fabric is merely a factor of personal choice. But, you could not be more wrong about it. Homeowners, while choosing fabric colors, sometimes do not consider the fact that certain colors are less resistant to stain than some others. So, when you have you have your upholstery located in a stain prone zone, i.e. in the vicinity of small kids, you are better off choosing darker shades that do not highlight stains that easily.

#3. Durability: There are some fabric types that look lustrous and appealing but can fade out with constant exposure to sunlight within no time. But then, if your upholstery is located in a space where very less amount of sunlight falls directly on the fabric, you are good to go with a fabric that has less fade resistance. Also, consider the amount of traffic that your upholstery will receive. Based on that, you need to determine how durable the fabric has to be for long-lasting comfort.

#4. Price does not equate to durability: If you have done any preliminary research on upholstery fabric, you may have come across fabric grades. The higher the grade, the more is the price of the fabric. But, a higher price does not mean that it is more durable. The grading is just an indication of how expensive the fabric was to make. You need to keep in mind that a higher grade does not equate to higher durability. A higher grade of fabric is also about fashion and luxury. But you need to ensure to not miss out on the basics while trying to focus on luxury. Above all, the budget you have fixed for upholstery fabric is also to be considered.

With all these expert points in mind, you can now easily pick a perfectly suitable fabric for your upholstery.
